The bearded dragon diet should consist of a combination of both meat (whether you feed it live or dead - such as chicken
breast) and plant matter.
The best practise I believe when it comes to bearded dragon diet is to ensure a rich mixture of finely chopped plant matter is available at all times
and is replaced at least once a day as in the heat of bearded dragon cages it soon starts to weep and go floppy and unappealing.
YOu will likely find your bearded dragon actually only eats this plant matter in the first hour or so of provision, after which he will lose interest
as it loses it's "freshness".
Once a day, livefood should also be provided.
So from my perspective I make up a bowl of plant matter when I'm preparing my own breakfast trying to include a wide range of goodies.
This goes into the bearded dragon cage before I go out to work.
When I get in in the evening and go to make my own dinner, I remove the plant matter bowl from the cage, empty the remnants into the bin and wash and sterilize the food bowl ready for
use the following day.
Then I feed as much livefood as my reptiles will take.
If they have eaten a decent amount of plant matter in the morning I consider this a fair and balanced way to do it.
I love to watch lizards stalking and catching livefood so I do it when I'm around in the evening and can watch all the fun!
When he seems to have had enough and isn't paying any attention to the livefood remaining in his cage, I'll do my best to remove it for another day so it doesn't annoy him.
In time, you learn roughly how much he'll actually eat each day and dose him with that amount to begin with, saving you time in collecting up the remaining livefood in his cage, but bearing
in mind as he grows so his appetite will increase so "top-ups" may be necessary.
Below I've added a link to the PETsMART website, which shows a range of suitable bearded dragon foods which may be of interest to you as you don't now need
to search for it, and can buy online to make your life easier.
