If you're looking for information on how to build a bearded dragon cage you can do so reasonably easily if you have some basic DIY skills.
The material you should use for the main cage is chipboard, covered in a plastic coating, which makes it hard-wearing and waterproof incase your
bearded dragon knocks his water bowl over for example.
It is known as "melamine board" or "contiboard" in most DIY stores, and if you plan your bearded dragon cage carefully before buying the wood to make the bulk of it
you should be able to get them to cut it to size for you.
Your first step should therefore be to find a local supplier of melamine board, thencheck what sizes they stock, so you can plan the cage and know exactly how many pieces of what sizes you'll need.
The wooden panels should be attached to each other firstly with decent length screws (around 5cm is ideal) but also with aquarium silicon sealant.
The sealant is not very strong on the wood so the screws help hold the cage together and add stability, whilst the sealant ensures all the joins are fully water tight so there are no leaks, and it also ensures that
there are no nooks are crannys for pests such as mites to hide in.
For the doors, you should buy some plastuc runners for glass from the DIY store, and have some glass cut specially to size.
There is an excellent book all about how to build your own reptile cages which you may be interested in looking at - you can find out more here.
However, whilst you'll save yourself a small amount of money, the actual hassle of going and building your own bearded dragon cage may be more than it's worth, and virtually every bearded dragon
in captivity is kept in a bearded dragon cage that was bought from a specialist supplier.
