Bearded dragons are one of the most popular pet lizards in the world, if not the most popular lizard.
There is a very good reason for the popularity of bearded dragon lizards.
Bearded dragons make ideal pet lizards. They are a good size - at around 1 1/2 feet to 2 feet in length - not too big as to be difficult to manage in the captive
environment, but not too small to make it easy to lose them in the house, or worry too much about handling them.
Bearded dragons are also very easy to keep in captivity and bearded dragon cages are available at reasonable costs.
Bearded dragons are relatively long-lived unlike, for example, anoles which may only live 2 or 3 years.
As they come from the desert areas of Australia, bearded dragons also require a dry environment to be happy, which is much easier to provide than the moist environment that,
say, iguanas require in captivity.
(You'll find more about the Australian bearded dragon in the wild in our wild bearded dragon lizards page.)
There is lots of information about bearded dragon care too, so you don't need to go making mistakes yourself - it's all laid out in a variety of good-quality books
available, including my favourite which you can find out more about
here.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, but suffice to say bearded dragons mnake ideal captives.
For those looking for bearded dragon information therefore, whether you've yet bought a bearded dragon from one of the
bearded dragon breeders around or not, you'll find a wealth of advice here based on my 10+ years of keeping reptiles in captivity.
Enjoy your stay!
